Coca de forner

Guitart bakery: the most delicious simplicity

This bakery first opened its doors in 1958. At the time it was known as Ca la Sofia, a name that has survived to this day and by which many Banyoles locals still refer to this family establishment. It is now in the hands of
Albert, who learned the trade from his father and grandfather. Three generations, that is, passionately dedicated to the artisan production of bread, pastries and seasonal specialties, such as Coca de Sant Joan sweet flatbreads and Tortell de Reis Christmas cream cakes.

Albert, with his passion for baked goods, spends hours in the bakery kneading dough and shaping breads of all kinds. Among his creations is one of the simplest but at the same time most delicious and traditional Catalan sweets: Coca de forner.

Taste the authentic flavour of this traditional sweet flatbread, dating back centuries and made with almost thesame ingredients as bread, with the special addition of caramelised sugar. Over time, the recipe has evolved and ingredients such as milk, olive oil and butter have been added, as well as aniseed to give it a unique flavour.
