Padrés bakery and patisserie: the world’s best Xuixo (Custard donut)

The Padrés bakery and patisserie, run by Ricard and Jordi Jambert for the past ten years, is keeping alive the tradition of one of the city’s most renowned bakeries. They bake a wide variety of excellent breads, such as the Banyolina baguette, rustic loaves and other breads made with different types of flour. They also turn out an extensive range of traditional pastries and cakes, made from the finest ingredients, inviting you to explore a world of textures and tastes.
However, Can Padrés’ claim to fame is for having won the prize for Best Xuixo in the World in 2018, as part of the Year of the Xuixo, which commemorated this sweet pastry typical of Girona. The xuixo is a custard-filled puff pastry delicacy, something like an exquisite fried sugar donut. The Jambert brothers, in winning this competition, stayed true to the traditional recipe, but improved it by avoiding an intense fried flavour and adding subtle aromas of cinnamon and lemon. The result was an award-winning Xuixo, crispy on the outside, with a soft and creamy inside, light and not at all cloying.
To find out why they won this prestigious award, visit the Padrés bakery and patisserie and try their famous Xuixo!
