The wealth of fish life in the Lake of Banyoles creates favourable conditions for sport fishing, but you can’t fish anywhere.
The controlled fishing areas in the lake basin are the Lake front, from La Draga Park to the Desmais (Weeping Willows) and at the pool of Vilar, catch and release fishing is allowed and you will need to have a recreational fishing license, as well as a specific permit to fish on the Lake.
The current Fishing Plan for the Lake of Banyoles, approved in late 2021, adds the prohibition to fish from wooden walkways. The new restriction is to avoid opening paths to access other fishing places, damaging the vegetation and encouraging use of the paths to access non-permitted locations for bathing in the summer. And also because of the danger posed by abandoned angling equipment that was often left on these walkways.
The recreational fishing license and the permit to fish in a controlled fishing area
The recreational fishing license is issued by the Government of Catalonia; as the permit to fish in a controlled fishing area (ZPC) that is specific for the Lake of Banyoles and the pool of Vilar.
You can buy the recreational fishing license for 1 day, 15 days, 1 year or up to 5 years (counting from the day on which it is requested) and the permit for a controlled fishing area is issued for 1 day or 1 year (in this case, 1 calendar year).
