Puig de Sant Martirià, at 242 meters in altitude, is a mountain located to the north of Banyoles, offering a spectacular view of the entire Pla de l’Estany region. This observation point, with a 360-degree panorama, allows one to see from the Pyrenees to the Transversal Range, with iconic mountains like Canigó and Mare de Déu del Mont. At the summit of Puig stands the ruins of the Convent Vell, a place of great religious significance since the 13th century, dedicated to Sant Martirià, the patron saint of Banyoles. This convent was occupied by several religious orders and played a key role until the 19th century. In addition to the ruins, the solitary oak tree of Teixidor and one of the few olive groves that survived the great cold wave of 1953, which affected the region, are notable.
