Since 25 June 1980, the Eleventh of September is the National Festivity of Catalonia. Although it commemorates the day when Catalonia lost its freedom with the fall of Barcelona on 11 September 1714, this Day is a manifestation of the Catalan people’s desire for recognition of their rights as a nation and the hope that one day these rights will be fully restored.
