GR Long-distance path / Historic trail GR1-Legs 3 and 4
GR-1 is a long-distance hiking trail between Sant Martí d’Empúries (Alt Empordà) in the east and Finisterre (Galicia) in the west, with a total distance of over 1,000 km. Part of this trail, specifically, legs 3 and 4, pass through Banyoles and the region of the Pla de l’Estany.

The part of the trail that passes through Catalonia is also called the Transversal Trail and it extends for more than 380 km. 
 

LEG 3: CAN DALMAU - BANYOLES

The final section of this leg ends at Banyoles and offers magnificent views of the basin of the Lake of Banyoles from the higher ground. 



LEG 4: BANYOLES – BESALÚ
Distance: 13.63 km 
Total ascent: 260 m 
Total descent: 294 m 
Time required to complete the route: 3 hours

This leg starts from Banyoles. The first part climbs Puig de Sant Martirià, giving magnificent views of the Lake and the mountains of the Pre-Pyrenees and Pyrenees.
