Art Centre

The Banyoles Art Centre is a new cultural facility in the city, located in Plaça Major, and is part of the city’s network of municipal museums, housing the Gimferrer Collection.

The centre was created following an agreement signed in December 2022 between Banyoles City Council and the Gimferrer family for the donation of one of the most important private art collections in the country. The space, located in the historic buildings of Molí de la Plaça and Can Teixidor, has been renovated and adapted to host a semi-permanent exhibition featuring a selection of around sixty works from the total of 136 in the collection, covering Catalan and Spanish painting of the 19th and 20th centuries, the avant-garde movements, and contemporary art, as well as a representation of African and Eastern art.

The official inauguration will take place on Friday, 27 March at 11:00 a.m., and will be attended by the Mayor of Banyoles, Miquel Noguer; the collector Jordi Gimferrer; and the Minister of Culture, Sònia Hernández Almodóvar.

The Art Centre will open to the public on Saturday, 28 March at 11:00 a.m., with free open days offered on 28 and 29 March and 3, 4, 5, and 6 April, coinciding with the Easter holidays.
